We LOVED seeing your spring palette-themed projects over the past month and a half. Thank you so much for participating in Challenge #13!

Now, onto Penguin Palace Challenge 14! I thought I’d do something a little different this time, so you’ll have to let me know if you like it. Our theme this month is: Geometric! This can be anything from making a shaped card, using the Stencils 360 to create a circular design, or anything involving shapes! Don’t forget to link your projects featuring Penguin Palace stamps below for your chance to win a $25 gift card!

My inspiration for this challenge actually came from the Minimalist Christmas Trees stamp set. I was looking at the solid stamped shapes and thought, “huh, those would make a fun geometric background”. I used each of the solid stamps from the set, overlapping them a little, and stamped in rainbow order using dye inks. This set the scene for five of my little bear images to fit within.

Next, I stamped five of the images from the Miniature Teddy Bear stamp set and cut them out with the coordinating dies. I colored them with Copic markers and adhered them down to my background. I stamped a sentiment from the Unity and Friendship Quotes stamp set and finished the card off with some colorful jewels!

A Few Changes

Before we get onto the next challenge, we wanted to let you know of a few changes we’re making going forward. This has been our first year running this challenge blog and we’ve learned a lot along the way — we’re always trying our best to make our challenges fun and welcoming for everyone!

We’ll still be having monthly challenges, but now they’ll run from the 1st to the second last day of each month. Our current challenge (#13) will run a little longer to get us on track with this new schedule! We’ll also be selecting a winner every second challenge — we will pool together all the entries across both challenges to pick our winner, and there must be at least three different participants over the two challenges in order for a winner to be selected. As always you can find all the rules detailed here. We hope that you’ll continue to have fun playing along with us!

Now onto Challenge 13!

It’s finally starting to warm up here in Canada, so what better time for a spring color palette challenge! Don’t forget to link your projects featuring Penguin Palace stamps below for your chance to win a $25 gift card!

I love the colors of this palette and knew I wanted to do some ink blending. I used my distress oxide inks to blend my background in the following order (top to bottom): Festive Berries, Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed, and Tattered Rose. I adhered my background down to a top-folding A2 card base.

Next, I die cut six butterflies from white 110 lb. cardstock using Layer 4 from the Butterfly Emergence 2 in 1 Layered Dies. I adhered these “flying” in all directions around the background and cut off the excess with my paper trimmer. I white heat-embossed the sentiment from Legend of The Koi onto a black cardstock strip and adhered it onto my card using foam tape. Finally, I added some sequins and embellishments to finish off the card.

Now, onto Penguin Palace Challenge 12! I’m so excited to be sharing inspiration for our first ever sketch challenge! Don’t forget to link your projects featuring Penguin Palace stamps below for your chance to win a $25 gift card!

I started by creating a 5″ x 7″ card base and die-cutting the Floral Garden Cover Die out of white cardstock. Then, I created a DIY stencil using a scrap piece of 5″ x 7″ cardstock from which I cut out a 4″ circle using a circle die. I lined up this DIY stencil with my card base and ink blended a soft gradient using dye inks on the card front. Then, I lined up the DIY stencil with the Floral Garden die-cut and did the same (this ensures my ink blending is in the same spot on both pieces and will line up properly). Once both pieces were ink blended, I glued the die-cut panel onto my card base.

For the focal point, I used a few layers of the Butterfly Emergence 2 in 1 Layered Dies (I glued together two die-cuts of Set 2, Layer 3, and one of Layer 4) and adhered it to the center of my ink blended circle. Finally, I white heat-embossed a sentiment from the My BFF stamp set onto a grey cardstock sentiment strip and adhered it to the card.

Now, onto Penguin Palace Challenge 11! I don’t know about you, but I love making celebratory cards and I tend to need them quite often! We welcome ANY celebratory themed projects — birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, congratulations, graduations, and everything in between. I’m always in need of birthday cards, so I figured I’d make one today! I started by blending some Rina K Designs Electropop inks onto a piece of 4.25″ x 5.5″ cardstock. I die cut the Slimline Oriental Cover Die from black cardstock and glued it on top of my inked panel. I used my paper trimmed to cut down the sides and then glued the final piece onto a 4.25″ x 5.5″ top-folding card base.

For the sentiment, I used a “hello” die I had in my stash and stamped “Happy Birthday” from the Enchanting Paris stamp set onto a cardstock strip. I glued these onto my card panel, and voila, this bright and graphic birthday card is done!

Now, onto Penguin Palace Challenge #10! Growing up I loved Valentine’s Day… the personalized little notes/cards, seasonal candies (candy hearts, those red sugar-coated marshmallows, cinnamon hearts), it also helped that my birthday is so close to it. So when I was choosing a palette for this month, I thought, what better inspiration than the quintessential symbol of Valentine’s Day: candy hearts!

I’m a big fan of stretching my supplies… it might surprise some folks, but I actually used the Minimalist Christmas Tree stamp set for this card! I started by using the semi-circle shape and stamping it repeatedly on my card base in dye ink colors inspired by this month’s palette. Then I took the doodled lines stamp and, in a slightly darker shade of the same color, stamped over top of several of the half circles to create a tone on tone look.

For my center focus, I die cut two hearts and added some ink blending to the larger one before gluing them together. Next, I stamped and Copic-colored the two little cuttlefish from The More We Get Together stamp set and cut them out using the coordinating Penguin Perfect Cuts. For the sentiment, I heat-embossed part of the “I love you, no lion” sentiment from Beautiful Africa onto a grey sentiment strip. I adhered my die cuts to the hearts, and then adhered the heart to the card. And voila, a cute little Valentine’s Day card!
