Now, onto Penguin Palace Challenge 11! I don’t know about you, but I love making celebratory cards and I tend to need them quite often! We welcome ANY celebratory themed projects — birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, congratulations, graduations, and everything in between. I’m always in need of birthday cards, so I figured I’d make one today! I started by blending some Rina K Designs Electropop inks onto a piece of 4.25″ x 5.5″ cardstock. I die cut the Slimline Oriental Cover Die from black cardstock and glued it on top of my inked panel. I used my paper trimmed to cut down the sides and then glued the final piece onto a 4.25″ x 5.5″ top-folding card base.

For the sentiment, I used a “hello” die I had in my stash and stamped “Happy Birthday” from the Enchanting Paris stamp set onto a cardstock strip. I glued these onto my card panel, and voila, this bright and graphic birthday card is done!

Now, onto Penguin Palace Challenge #10! Growing up I loved Valentine’s Day… the personalized little notes/cards, seasonal candies (candy hearts, those red sugar-coated marshmallows, cinnamon hearts), it also helped that my birthday is so close to it. So when I was choosing a palette for this month, I thought, what better inspiration than the quintessential symbol of Valentine’s Day: candy hearts!

I’m a big fan of stretching my supplies… it might surprise some folks, but I actually used the Minimalist Christmas Tree stamp set for this card! I started by using the semi-circle shape and stamping it repeatedly on my card base in dye ink colors inspired by this month’s palette. Then I took the doodled lines stamp and, in a slightly darker shade of the same color, stamped over top of several of the half circles to create a tone on tone look.

For my center focus, I die cut two hearts and added some ink blending to the larger one before gluing them together. Next, I stamped and Copic-colored the two little cuttlefish from The More We Get Together stamp set and cut them out using the coordinating Penguin Perfect Cuts. For the sentiment, I heat-embossed part of the “I love you, no lion” sentiment from Beautiful Africa onto a grey sentiment strip. I adhered my die cuts to the hearts, and then adhered the heart to the card. And voila, a cute little Valentine’s Day card!

Now, onto Challenge #9! It’s been getting chilly here in Canada, so we thought we’d choose a winter-themed color palette, because who doesn’t love hot chocolate in winter? I absolutely LOVE the new Minimalist Christmas Tree stamp set and wanted to make it the highlight of my card. Using dye ink colors inspired by this month’s palette, I stamped 5 trees, mixing and matching different tree bodies, decorations, pots, and stars. I love how many unique combinations you can create with this set! I gold heat-embossed the stars and then fussy cut each tree out.

Next, I die-cut the Slimline Oriental Cover Die from white cardstock and adhered it onto a 3.5″ x 8.5″ top-folding card base. For the sentiment, I white heat-embossed the main block of sentiment strips from the Magical Christmas Sentiments stamp set onto black cardstock and cut them out with the coordinating die. I love that you get 17 sentiments strips with only one stamp and one pass through your die-cut machine! I adhered each of the trees onto the card using foam tape to add some dimension and chose one of the sentiments to adhere across them. Finally I added some gold baubles to finish it off!

Now, onto Challenge #8! It’s getting close to the holiday season, so what better time to start (if you’re a bit of a “Last Minute Lucy”) or continue working on those holiday cards? ALL holiday cards and projects are welcome — Christmas, Hanukkah, New Years, Lunar New Year, and anything and everything in between! I’ve been itching to use the new Everything Christmas Stencils 360°™ and this challenge was the perfect excuse! This stencil is so pretty, and you can easily blend each piece in a different colour ink without having to do any masking. I used my blending brushes and a mix of distress and dye inks to cover a 7 inch square panel.

Once the panel was blended, I cut it down to 4.5 x 6.5 inches, and mounted it onto a 5 x 7 inch card base I made from Christmas Tree Heavyweight Premium Cardstock. I white heat-embossed the ‘Tis the Season to be Jolly sentiment from the Magical Christmas Sentiments stamp set on black cardstock and loosely fussy cut it out. I popped the sentiment up on some foam tape and added some gold baubles to finish off the card.

Now, onto Challenge #7! Since we’re in the midst of fall (who knew fall doesn’t technically end until December 21?!), we thought it’d be the perfect time for an autumn colour palette challenge. Don’t forget to link your projects featuring Penguin Palace stamps below for your chance to win a $25 gift card!

I knew I had to create a card with leaves for this challenge, so I did something a little creative to incorporate stenciled and stamped leaves. To create the background, I started with a 7” square of white cardstock and used the 7” Paper Positioner to temporarily adhere it to the centre of my Stencils 360°™. Then, I created the spiral of leaves using the Spring Blooms Stencils 360°™.

To get this spiral look, I ink blended only 3 leaves (circled in red) at every 15° increment (when the arrow [circled in orange] aligned with each of the lines with solid squares [circled in yellow]). I also alternated the colour I used to ink blend every 15° turn in the following order: red, burgundy, orange, yellow. When the background was complete, I cut it down to 5” x 7” and adhered it to a card base.

On a separate sheet of a cardstock I stamped the beaver from Bond with Nature Canada and covered him with a mask. Below him, I stamped and masked many logs and leaves to make it look like a fall scene (this involved a lot of masking, but you could definitely die cut instead!).

Next, I Copic-coloured the scene using rich fall colours inspired by this month’s palette. Once I was happy with it, I used a circle die to cut it out, and adhered the circle to the centre of my card. To finish the card off I teamed up some of the sentiments from Bond with Nature Canada. In order to curve the sentiments in a semi circle, I placed a clear acrylic block on top of my card and stuck the photopolymer stamps to it while gently curving them to match the shape of the circle below. Then I inked them up and stamped them as normal and voila!
