Penguin Palace Challenge #4 – Interactive

Hello and welcome back crafty friends!

We LOVED seeing your summery coloured projects over the past month! Thank you to everyone who participated in Challenge #3! Now, onto Challenge #4! This month’s theme is one of my personal favourites: interactive! Don’t forget to link your projects featuring Penguin Palace stamps below for your chance to win a $25 gift card!

I LOVE interactive cards, and Penguin Palace has so many awesome interactive dies that make creating interactive projects even easier! For today’s card I decided to use the Cinematic Shadow Box – Stand-Alone Die. I started by cutting each of the pieces out of kraft cardstock.

To create the pyramids in the background I used the pyramid die from the Desert Landscape Scene Builder – Dies & Stencil Set on the background panel. I used the stencil from this set and some Distress Oxide inks (Antique Linen & Brushed Corduroy) to add some dimension to the pyramids. I also used the hillside die from the same set on another piece of kraft cardstock and glued it to the background panel to add some extra stability. While I had my inks out, I added Antique Linen to the side panels and sentiment strip so they would coordinate with the pyramids.

Next, I stamped out almost all of the images from the Mysterious Egypt stamp set and coloured them in using Copic markers. Once they were colored, I die cut them using the coordinating dies. I also paired up the sentiments from the Mysterious Egypt stamp set which fit perfectly across the sentiment strip.

Finally, I assembled all the pieces from the Cinematic Shadow Box (there’s a great video showing how to assemble it here) and added the stamped images to create a little scene–having 4 levels creates so much dimension!

Penguin Palace Challenge #3!

We LOVED seeing your birthday-themed projects over the past month and want to thank you so much for participating in Challenge #2! Now, onto the third Penguin Palace Challenge! I’m so excited to be sharing inspiration using this month’s summer colour palette! Don’t forget to link your projects featuring Penguin Palace stamps below for your chance to win a $25 gift card!

I love this summery colour palette and knew I wanted to do some stenciling. Plus, I LOVE techniques that result in two (or more) cards. I started with a 7″ square of white cardstock and placed it at the centre of my Stencils 360°™ using the 7″ guide ring. Next, I used the Rainbows & Butterflies Stencils 360°™ and dye inks in colours that correspond to this month’s palette to ink blend all of the butterflies and rainbows!

Once the panel was done, I cut it in half right down the centre. Then, I cut off some of the white space from each panel until it measured 5 7/8″ x 3 1/8″. To create the mats, I cut two pieces using the decorative rectangle from the Cinematic Shadow Box – Stand-Alone Die and blended the edges of one with red dye ink, and the edges of the other with teal dye ink. I adhered each die cut down to a 6 1/8″ x 3 3/8″ card base, and then adhered my stenciled panels on top. Lastly, I stamped the “Happy Birthday” sentiment from the Enchanting Paris stamp set onto the centre of each card!

Penguin Palace Challenge #2!

Hello and welcome back to the second Penguin Palace Challenge! Candice here, and I’m so excited to be sharing inspiration for this month’s theme: Birthday! Don’t forget to link your birthday themed projects featuring Penguin Palace stamps below for your chance to win a $25 gift card!

I created two projects, both using the Made You A Cake Stand-Alone Die in different ways! For my first card, I used Heavyweight Premium Cardstock and cut the cake out of some Cotton Candy and the candle flames out of Citrus Cooler. The “icing” was cut out of some DIY glitter paper I had in my stash (what do I mean by DIY glitter paper? I found a very dry glitter paste in my stash and didn’t want to waste it, so I tried to spread what I could onto cardstock so I could die cut from it later or, at the very least, use it as a sparkly background!)

Before I adhered each of the pieces together I used my Copics to add some shading to the cake and candles. On my card base, I used the Kaleidoscope Stencils 360°™ and blended some light pink die ink through only one “arm” of the stencil. To finish off the card, I adhered the cake down to the center of the card, and added some Nuvo drops!

For my second card, I used the largest rectangle from the Dotted Borders Slimline Pull Tab Stand Alone Die and did some partial die cutting to create a 3 1/3″ x 5 1/4″ panel. I used Heavyweight Premium Cardstock and cut the cake out of White-Sand Beach, the icing out of Electric Blue, the candles out of Apple Green, and the candle flames out of Citrus Cooler.

Before adhering all the different pieces together, I cut the main cake piece in half (right between the layers). I used the smallest track die from the Dotted Borders Slimline Pull Tab Stand Alone Die to cut a small slit behind where the bottom cake layer would sit on the card panel. I put foam tape around the sides and bottom of the bottom cake layer (as pictured) to ensure there was room for the top layer to hide behind. I assembled the pull tab and adhered the top of the cake to it, that way when the tab is pulled, it lifts the top layer of the cake out of the bottom!

I adhered fun foam behind the panel (leaving room for the pull tab arm) and adhered it to a 4″ x 5 3/4″ card base. Lastly, I stamped the “Happy Birthday Eh!” sentiment from Bond with Nature Canada to finish off the card.

Penguin Palace Challenge #1!

Hello and welcome to the first ever Penguin Palace Challenge! It’s Candice here, and I’m so excited to be your challenge host!

We’re so excited for our new monthly challenges and can’t wait to see all your creative projects! Use this color palette inspiration and link your projects featuring Penguin Palace stamps below for your chance to win a $25 gift card!

I created two projects inspired by this month’s color palette — one for the Stencils 360° ™ fans and one for those who prefer working with the cute critter stamps!

For my first card, I used the new Spring Blooms Stencils 360°™ and distress oxide inks that match this month’s color palette (Milled Lavender, Squeezed Lemonade, Worn Lipstick, Kitsch Flamingo, and Spun Sugar).

Once the blending was complete, I cut it into a rectangle using one of the dies from the Cinematic Shadow Box Stand Alone Die, and stamped a sentiment from the My BFF stamp set on a die cut circle which was adhered to the center. I mounted the panel on a 6 3/8″ x 3 5/8″ card base and added a few pearl embellishments to finish it off.

For my second card, I cut a rectangle using one of the dies from the Cinematic Shadow Box Stand Alone Die, and ink blended a background using distress oxide inks (Squeezed Lemonade, Kitsch Flamingo, Worn Lipstick, Milled Lavender). I ink blended and cut the “sand” using a die from the Desert Landscape Scene Builder – Dies & Stencil Set.

Next, I stamped and Copic colored some of the adorable images from the Aloha Hawaii stamp set and cut them out using the coordinating dies. I adhered the images to the front panel and mounted it onto a 6 3/8″ x 4″ card base. Lastly, I paired up the “Aloha” and “Oahu Doin?” sentiments on a white banner.
